Accessibility

Community Legal Centres Australia is committed to making the National Community Legal Centres Conference as accessible as possible.

We will update this page with new information as it becomes available.

Our conference venue, Kambri at ANU, provides information on accessibility for the Kambri Cultural Centre and other parts of the ANU campus.

National Conference 2025 – A child-friendly event

CLCs Australia is committed to ensuring that National Conference 2025 is a child and family-friendly event and supporting delegates who need to bring their children with them to attend.

Children and carers welcome at the conference venue, Kambri at ANU

Children will be welcome at all venues at Kambri at ANU throughout the event program, including the Marie Reay Teaching Centre (all day Tuesday and Wednesday morning), and the Lowitja O’Donoghue Cultural Centre (from 2:00pm Wednesday to 1:00pm Friday). This includes access to network meeting and masterclass rooms, the plenary hall and breakout session spaces.

Parents will retain responsibility for their children’s safety and wellbeing throughout the event. We note that while children are welcome in all conference rooms and spaces, the content and discussions in some sessions are likely to cover issues that are not age-appropriate, including sexual, domestic and family violence, child removals, substance use and trauma. While CLCs Australia will provide content warnings for sessions wherever possible, distressing content may arise in any session, and we cannot guarantee advance warning. Parents will be responsible for deciding whether specific sessions are appropriate for their children, and for their safety and wellbeing during and after any session they attend.

Parents are welcome to bring family members or other carers to the venue to help care for their children during National Conference 2025. CLCs Australia will provide such carers with free access to the conference venue, but not to events or sessions on the conference program.

Dedicated child-friendly and quiet spaces

CLCs Australia will ensure that parents with babies and small children have access to a dedicated, private space to feed and settle them.

There is ample outdoor space at Kambri at ANU for children and carers to play in and explore, weather permitting. We will provide further information about things to do with children in Canberra closer to the event.

Food, drinks and equipment

Children are welcome to eat the morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea provided for conference delegates on Wednesday afternoon, all day Thursday, and Friday morning. However, the conference cannot cater to children’s dietary requirements, and parents will retain full responsibility for supervising children who eat the conference catering and ensuring it meets their dietary needs, including allergies.

Parents and carers will need to provide all food and drink for children who attend the network meeting day, masterclasses or other side events. There are multiple cafes and food vendors onsite at Kambri at ANU.

Parents will also need to provide all medicine and other equipment (nappies, wipes, bottles, bedding, toys, art materials etc.) their children will need during National Conference 2025.

Social events

Children and carers are welcome to stay onsite at Kambri at ANU with parent delegates attending the Welcome Reception in the Lowitja O’Donoghue Cultural Centre Foyer on Wednesday 3 September. Parents should note that alcohol will be served at this event, and children must be kept away from the bar and alcohol service areas. Children and carers will not be offered refreshments at this event (drinks and canapes). As the event runs from 6:00 to 7:30pm, parents should provide children with food and drink during this event.

Due to cost, logistics and safety issues, children cannot attend the Conference Dinner at the National Museum of Australia on Thursday 4 September.
