North Queensland Women’s Legal Service (NQWLS) is a community-based legal service developed and operated by women for women. Since their inception in 1996, they have sought to enhance women’s access to justice and promote change within the justice system informed by women’s experiences.
North Queensland Women’s Legal Service’s clients are women. They are usually mums (and primary carers) and have limited access to financial resources. All too often, they are victims of domestic violence. North Queensland Women’s Legal Service see an increased demand for their help each year, especially from women in rural and regional areas.
As the demand for help increases, so does the team of Lawyers wanting to use their expertise to make a real difference in the lives of women and their children. In recognition of this, the NQWLS has also recently received increased funding to meet this demand in new and innovative ways.
As such, NQWLS now have an exciting opportunity for full-time Family Lawyers to join the team in Townsville or Cairns. There will be times when you will need to travel to conduct work within the community, such as outreach advice clinics, community legal education and other activities.
