Submissions

Opposing regulations that create additional grounds to deregister charities

CLCs Australia endorsed this submission by HOOC to Treasury which opposes The Australian Charities and Not for profits Commission Amendment (2021 Measures No. 2) Regulations 2021 which seek to significantly broaden the scope of activities for which charities can be deregistered, The proposed regulations are an unnecessary and unjustified overreach and would impact every one of the 58,000 charities registered in Australia.

Electoral reform should not stifle the voices of civil society

CLCs endorsed this submission by HOOC in relation to the Electoral Legislation Amendment (Electoral Funding and Disclosure Reform) Act 2018. The submission opposed using amendment of the Electoral Act as a cover to stifle the voices of civil society.

About HOOC

The HOOC alliance was formed to protect the important role of public interest advocacy and the ability of community voices to be heard in national political debates. The members of HOOC together represent millions of Australians concerned with a wide range of issues including education, social welfare, human rights, animal welfare, the environment, health, climate change, disability rights and philanthropy. Our organisations, the issues we work on, and the communities we serve and represent, are diverse, but we all share a fundamental commitment: to act in the public interest.
