Reporting to the Coordinator & Principal Solicitor, and working closely with our Admin team and volunteers the primary objective of the role is to help vulnerable members of the Hunter community to receive legal and other assistance. The majority of Hunter CLC’s client work is via our Free Legal telephone advice service. As an intake officer, you will be these clients’ first point of contact.
To be successful in the role, the candidate needs to be able to communicate with a range of clients, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds, may have a disability or behavioural issues, and/or may be in distress. Intake officers need to be comfortable listening to a client’s issues, take relevant notes and identify the legal problem so that it can be passed on to our legal team or to provide the client with an appropriate referral.
