Community Legal Centres Australia is the national peak body for the community legal sector. We are an independent, non-profit organisation set up to support the community legal sector to provide high-quality, free, and accessible legal and other services to everyday people, especially people experiencing financial hardship, discrimination, or domestic or family violence.
Community Legal Centres Australia does not provide direct legal services to the public. As a peak body, we represent and support around 170 community-based legal services across Australia. Use the resources on this page to find a nearby centre that may be able to assist you.
Our national policy, advocacy, and law reform work is a critical part of our work as national peak for the community legal sector. Our movement has a vision for justice, which will only be realised through progressive law reform, and adequate resourcing for our sector so that the people and communities we work with can access the legal supports they need.
Prosecuting whistleblowers deters people from speaking out against corruption. Time for @MarkDreyfusKCMP to take action to end ongoing cases against Richard Boyle and David McBride. https://bit.ly/3lhkl7i @humanrightsHRLC @KieranPender
The #RobodebtRC is highlighting shocking abuses of power and attempts by the government to silence those raising concerns about the illegal and unethical scheme. @ACOSS CEO Cassandra Goldie says ‘’[the govt was] playing politics with people’s lives’’ https://bit.ly/3ljzSTW
Leaking the personal details of people who were brave enough to speak out against the illegal #robodebt scheme was a nasty attempt to silence criticism of a flawed system. The government propaganda and attempt to discredit victims is shameful. #RobodebtRC
Community Legal Centres Australia acknowledges the traditional owners of the lands across Australia and particularly acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, traditional owners of the land on which the Community Legal Centres Australia office is situated.
