About Justice Where We Live

People who live in regional and remote communities face unique barriers to accessing justice, and the ‘solutions’ governments put forward are often one-size-fits-all and can be ineffective. Regional and remote communities have access to fewer services, and to a narrower range of services, than people in the cities. The services that do work in these areas are left to meet a broad range of needs for people who can’t access other supports.

Regional and remote community legal sector workers regularly undertake extensive long-distance travel and battle severe weather events to meet the high levels of legal need in their communities. They are on the frontlines keeping women and children in our regions safe, with 75% of the work they do is domestic and family violence related.
