Many clients of regional and remote community legal centres don’t have reliable access to a car, or even a mobile phone. Often, the only way people access support is by community lawyers and social workers driving hours to their remote communities to see them face-to-face.
Over 9 out of 10 regional and remote community legal centres offer outreach services to regional and remote communities in their catchment areas. Many of the people serviced on outreach would not otherwise have had access to help.
Based on the most recent Community Legal Centres Australia sector survey, community legal centres travel a combined 1.26 million kilometres a year to provide services to people in regional and remote communities. That’s far enough to travel between Earth and the moon 3.3 times.
